As I stood in front of the mirror this morning, my eyes fell on the scar that runs across my back. It is a memory of when I was confronted with cancer. This experience has shown me how important it is to accept yourself, scars and all, and to live your own femininity in all its forms.
But what does it actually mean to be a woman?
This question can be answered in many ways, because femininity is as diverse as women themselves.
1. The power of femininity: Femininity is often associated with gentleness and nurturing, but women are also incredibly strong. This strength is not only evident in physical feats, but also in emotional and mental resilience. Women overcome challenges, raise children, run businesses, and perform countless heroic deeds, both large and small, every day.
2. The variety of roles: Women take on many roles throughout their lives: daughter, sister, friend, partner, mother, career woman, and many more. Each of these roles brings its own joys and challenges. The ability to switch between these roles and excel in each role is a remarkable trait.
3. The beauty of empathy: Empathy is another strength often associated with women. The ability to empathize with others and show compassion creates deeper and more meaningful connections.
4.The courage to change: Women have proven time and again throughout history that they are brave enough to drive change. From the suffragette movement to modern feminists, women fight for equality and work for a fairer world. This courage to change shows that femininity is also synonymous with progress and change.
5. The joy of community and support: Women know how to form networks and communities based on mutual support. These communities are sources of strength and inspiration in which women learn from and encourage each other.
Being a woman is much more than just being a gender. It is an experience full of depth, strength and beauty. Remember all the unique qualities you bring to the world as a woman. Celebrate your successes, your struggles and the journey you are on. Because in all of these aspects lies the true beauty of being a woman.
Here are some tips that have helped me embrace and celebrate my femininity, even during my healing journey:
Self-acceptance: Accept and love your body, including the scars and marks it bears. They are part of your story and make you the strong woman you are.
Connecting with other women: simply by talking to friends. Together we can strengthen and inspire each other.
Personal care: Take time for self-care and enjoy taking care of yourself. Whether it's a relaxing bath, a face mask or a walk in nature - find what refreshes and revitalizes you.
Strength through vulnerability: Allow yourself to be vulnerable and show your emotions. This shows true strength and allows you to get in touch with your inner power.
